Local Photography

Bangladesh has a rich history of photography. Both amateur and professional photography is being practised in the country for over 50 years, producing very high quality works in the field. Some well appreciated samples are given below.

As for the industry, it evolved in the yearly 1970's with contributions from enthusiastic entrepreneurs and its expansion took the highest pace over the last decade, mainly due to a sharp increase in the demand for photo arts and the regeneration of photographs as a common commodity among the public.

Currently, the photographic industry is one of the major industries in the country, and is expanding faster than it ever did. Current estimates say that there could be over 40,000 indoor studios and 700 fully functioning minilab systems around the country.

The central regulatory body in the industry is the Bangladesh Photographic Association. This body represents the industry in its negotiations with the government and tries to withhold the rights of the member organizations.
